Calcium supplements cause constipation for me and since I have had issues with this due to a bowel obstruction surgery, as well as IBS with fibromyalgia, more of that issue I really don't need. Is there any calcium product that is less constipating? I do take 3000mg vit D and 200 mg Magnesium daily and eat a lot of calcium rich foods.
You are very fortunate. Take care. Hugs 🫂
@ Janet3, i also take vit K2 as well.😀
Hi, new member here. Im 52, diagnosed 2010. No medicine. No issues. Then a year ago I had a sciatic nerve (ie-rod in leg feeling) issue & lower back pain. A few mths later I had a multiple fractures from my neck to tail bone. 6mths ago had kyphoplasty on 3 thorasic,3 lumbar. DXA -5.6 spine, -4.0 both hips. Been on tymlos 4 mths. I'm Wondering if any of you have experienced this pain. Feels like I've been wearing a corset but with the ribs crushing downwards towards hips. I have yet to find a… read more
Earlier this week I was diagnosed with osteopenia in both my left hip and knee. I have read that phenytoin/Dilantin can cause osteoporosis. Have any of you had similar experience? What action(s) did you and your doctor take? Did you change your meds?
@A MyOsteoTeam Member,
I wish doctors could get their acts together! One says no arthritis, the next one says I have arthritis. 🤔
My mother took Fosamax for over 8 years and still broke her hip. I have friends who have tried the shots and still broken bones. What have you found the most effective treatment for osteoporosis? I am also trying the exercise program by Margaret Martin. I already exercise daily and this helps me focus on a program particular to osteoporosis; including tips on what not to do. I have also heard that your diet is also a factor? Has anyone found this to be true? Thanks so much.
Ugh! I'm suffering from a frozen shoulder right now. I am wondering if the fosamax is at fault. I went off if it.
So I am on alendronate for my osteoporosis. Also taking Magnesium, calcium and vitamin d.
Now the arthritis that has moved in is raising havoc. Two Tylenol arthritis will give me relief- but I know that isn’t good to take too much of.
So- anyone out there have any remedies that won’t cause problems down the road?
I put them on my shopping list…thank you…I too have dry eye disease…
I take a calcium supplement 3x/day. How many hours apart shoukd they be taken?
Ok, thank you, @A MyOsteoTeam Member. I have been taking mine 6 hours apart as well. I think the impression I left is that I’m taking 1,000 mg 3x/day for a total of 3,000 mg./day! In fact, I take a… read more
I was diagnosed a year ago ( hips) and have NOT taken any medication. I went to the doctor today and of course she was not happy and gave me the push to take alendronate once a week. The side affects right on the package are alarming. Esophagus problems, bone pain, jaw bone problems, thigh bone fractures etc. When I asked her about these she said “they have to tell you all of these but they are rare”. Is there anyone who has taken this medication and NOT had any side affects???
It seems like many people that have osteoporosis also have osteoarthritis which also effects the bones. Hard to work on both at the same time. Any suggestions
Thank you, Carley, you are so right that one change can make a huge difference. I am glad that you found the video useful. I really liked that the doctor explained why each movement was important.
The more I read about different treatments the more confused I get. I have had several fractures and realize I need to do something- fosamax didn’t work for me. I certainly don’t want to end up in worse shape than I am already because of side effects of a treatment !!!!
If I were you I would definitely try Algaecal with the Strontium. It is a more natural way to support your bone lose considering the results with medication show that it holds onto your old bone and… read more
