Members offered reassurance and practical strategies for managing constipation while starting alendronic acid, with many sharing that they experienced similar digestive issues from calcium supplements (Adcal) and found relief by stopping or reducing calcium while increasing vitamin D intake alone. Several members described their approaches to managing the side effects, including eating high-fiber diets, drinking plenty of water, taking psyllium fiber, and working with their doctors to test calcium and vitamin D levels to determine if dietary calcium might be sufficient. A recurring theme was that some members chose alternative treatments like the annual Reclast infusion to avoid stomach issues, or explored herbal and homeopathic remedies, though opinions varied on whether calcium supplements are truly necessary or potentially harmful.

I started Alendeonic acid & Adcal tablets at the beginning of Jan after just being diagnosed with osteoporosis. I also had horrendous constipation, despite eating lots of fruit, veg, prunes, drinking water. Came off it after 4 weeks, took a week before back to normal. Still taking the AA tablets. Got an appointment with Dr to ask if I can have just Vit D, no calcium. Think I get enough from healthy diet.

I was diagnosed and given these drugs but never took them I went straight I homeopathic meds but I don’t know if they’re working or not ... so I’m having another scan done to see what’s happening.
Can’t tell the doctor or she won’t do the scan ... if it’s not working I will go on these meds

I just started taking it and am doing fine so far. Alendronate has been around for a long time, it seemed to me to be a good thing to start with.
