I have osteopenia and was prescribed Prolia. Decided to seek another opinion and referred to an exercise physiologist. Undertaking exercise program In an attempt to stop progression. Has anyone else tried this and how successful was it?
Yes, Lorraine, i did. I was diagnosed with osteopenia and immediately increased my daily walking which is obviously a weight bearing exercise. The result of my next DEXA scan was normal. Really.
I have osteoporosis for several years and have been putting off taking any meds as I am scared with all the reported side effects. I was sent to a rheumatologist and he says I am at risk for fracture as my scan readings are at critical levels and I must take something. He suggests Fosamax to start. I know I have no choice and am very worried but he explained my probability of having a fracture is much greater than any side effects I take calcium and Vitamin D. I appreciate any insight all… read more
When I have my bone scan, I notice they only scan my L1 in my spine and I think they should scan more such as the L3 or L4, they also scan my left arm and hip.
Does anyone else have more than the L1 done on their spine?

I have osteopenia of more than 10 years duration. My MD would like me to take Fosamax. I have bad teeth--I receive regular dental care and floss and brush with prescription strength fluoride toothpaste like I'm supposed to, but I have numerous crowns/fillings, 4 implants, I've had several root canals and broken teeth. I'm wondering what besides Prolia or biphosphanates I could take. I am afraid of osteonecrosis of the jaw--I'm also afraid of breaking a hip. I take calcium and Vit D supplements… read more

An MRI of my spine shows that I have bulging discs in my lower back. This is causing me to have a good deal of difficulty walking, which is greatly impacting my ability to perform and enjoy day-to-day activities. I’m wondering if anyone in this group has tried chiropractic treatment for decompression of the spine. (I have been diagnosed with osteopenia and have declined to take medication for this condition.)
I have severe osteoarthritis along with the osteopenia so the chiropractor will not touch my spine
I have just been prescribed Actonel and after reading about the side affects I am afraid to take it causes esophageal cancer. eventually causes fractures life expectancy after commencing taking is 15 years all seems rather drastic to me
Hi I have been doing Osteostrong for about a year now and I have reversed osteoporosis back to osteopinia I have not taken any of the prescribed drugs for osteoporosis I do take calcium and vitamin D… read more
Earlier this week I was diagnosed with osteopenia in both my left hip and knee. I have read that phenytoin/Dilantin can cause osteoporosis. Have any of you had similar experience? What action(s) did you and your doctor take? Did you change your meds?
@A MyOsteoTeam Member,
I wish doctors could get their acts together! One says no arthritis, the next one says I have arthritis. 🤔
My most recent DEXA scan was evaluated and I have been informed that I have osteopenia. I do experience hip pain in both of my hips. I have been doing exercise and have done physical therapy.
You mention the hip fractures as they relate to osteoporosis. Can you share information as it relates to osteopenia.
I refused bone meds out of fear of side effects and have suffered four vertebral fractures and scoliosis. I am miserable and now my oncologist says they probably can’t be fixed by Kyphoplasty because I have discs involved. But I need an MRI and to see a neurosurgeon. I’ve been in a recliner for seven months and I feel my life is over. Can anyone relate or help me?
Hi I have had 4 vertibral fractures . 3 I had fixed long ago with surgery and now am waiting to get the 4th fixed. Ins. is holding it up. I have had it for 6 mo. now. I had a MRI. I have been sleeping… read more
