Good Morning Everyone. I Hope You Are All Well. Anyone Have Any Experience, Taking Fosamax? I Am Due To Start It Due To Bad Scan Readings?
A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have osteoporosis for several years and have been putting off taking any meds as I am scared with all the reported side effects. I was sent to a rheumatologist and he says I am at risk for fracture as my scan readings are at critical levels and I must take something. He suggests Fosamax to start. I know I have no choice and am very worried but he explained my probability of having a fracture is much greater than any side effects I take calcium and Vitamin D. I appreciate any insight all… read more

Gloria - if you go on Fosamax please let me know how you are doing on it with side effects etc. I have to go on something as well, and I was thinking of trying Fosamax. Thanks Ellieann xxx

HI Gloria - I too have been diagnosed with Osteopenia and my doctor insists that I go on Prolia....however, Humana doesn't want to pay for it. We are going to try something I had been on a few years ago and its called Zometa. The doc says its the same thing but I am suspicious. I feel that we are damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Good morning from Mount Gambier, South Australia. I am an active 80 year old, take CALTRATE ( vit D & calcium ) every day & have a 6 month PROLIA injection. Photo shows me at the garden centre with my fur grandchild Cooper.

Hi Arlene,

You are right -- all the meds have such side effects it frightens me to even read about them. I haven't started the Fosamax yet; it is sitting on my table with all my paperwork and research. I will have to decide soon what to do, as my doctor is afraid a fracture may occur as my scores are so low. I hope you stay well. Best regards.

Hi Ann,

I have severe osteoporosis per my doctor. I avoided meds for a few years just taking Calicium and Vitamin D, etc., but now he told me I must be on somethign to stop the progression. I am praying all will be good. I wish you the best and hope you can keep your osteopina at bay for now. Best regards.
