Members strongly disagreed with the doctors' claims that osteoporosis doesn't cause pain, with many sharing their own experiences of chronic back, rib, hip, ankle, and wrist pain despite having no visible fractures on imaging tests. Several members suggested practical next steps, including seeking out a specialist or endocrinologist rather than relying solely on a GP, considering that micro-fractures can exist beneath the bone surface like cracks in an ice cube, and managing pain through ibuprofen and regular exercise. A recurring theme was frustration with medical dismissal of their lived experiences and the advice to advocate for oneself by finding doctors who take the pain seriously.

I like to be positive but I think the only answer is the doctors believe what they are saying. I suspect if they had it then they would say it is painful.

Because you have a fracture somewhere. It may not show on xrays or mri's. Think of your bones like an ice cube, there can be fractures under the surface that do not show.

I’ve not been to one doctor; internist, endocrinologist, orthopedist that agree that osteoporosis causes pain, but it does even without fractures. I have back, rib and hip pain. I’ve also been having ankle and wrist pain. Have had numerous tests, including xrays, blood work and nothing explains the pain. I’ll go a couple days with no pain and them bam...all day discomfort. I am not on meds but on bone supplements thru my integrative doctor which include calcium, K2, D3, Boron, magnesium. My endo and integrative docs want me on Tymlos but I’m hesitant based on the horrible side effects many suffer. I do have osteoarthritis in my jaw but am wondering if the pain in my body is from a form of arthritis. I am active and walk/hike and lift weights.

You should see endocrinologist for osteoporosis, not GP
