My doctor prescribed Fosomax once a week. I haven’t taken it yet. I read the possible side effects and am leery. Any comments would be appreciated.

Members shared deeply mixed experiences with Fosamax for osteoporosis, with some reporting no issues after years of use while others discontinued due to severe side effects including jaw necrosis, gastrointestinal problems, and general discomfort that led doctors to stop the medication. Several members described choosing alternative approaches such as calcium and vitamin D supplements, natural products like Aquamin, regular walking, and declining infusion treatments in favor of monitoring bone density without pharmaceutical intervention. A recurring theme was the highly personal nature of this decision, with members emphasizing that each body responds differently and that quality of life matters deeply when weighing the risks of medication against the risks of untreated bone loss.

Three days on this and my Dr. ordered me off it. I’ve turned the infusion down as it was recommended after I fractured the T11 in the spine. I’ve chosen to take 1 tablet a day of Go Life Calcium, which is a natural Aquamin product. Will see after the next bone-density test how this may or may not have helped. I’m not prepared to suffer with side-effects or have other areas of my body affected because of the drugs offered. I have enough health ailments to deal with without feeling further sick because of side-effects.
I wonder DrPepper what side-effects that aren’t “bad side effects” are and what they are doing to the body?
What I also know is that each person is different, and what may affect some, mayn’t affect others.

I used Fosamax for a few years, unfortunately it was not suited for me. I was diagnosed with necrosis of the jaw it is very rare, after 18 months on penicillin and bits of bones appearing from my jaw, everything is fine now...so I recommend not to take it.
