A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ontario, CA

I am considering taking Algaecal, is anyone else taking it, and does it work as far as growing bone? I have DDD and osteoporosis.

Members shared mixed perspectives on AlgaeCal, a calcium supplement marketed for bone growth, with some having taken it for months or years alongside exercise and dietary changes, while others expressed concern about ingredients like strontium and reports of high lead levels. Several members emphasized the importance of researching ingredients carefully before deciding, with one member noting they chose not to take it after doing their own investigation, and another waiting for their next bone density scan to assess whether the supplement has made a real difference. A recurring theme was the challenge of navigating osteoporosis treatment options, balancing hope for natural solutions with skepticism about marketing claims and a desire to avoid prescription medications like Prolia or Fosamax.

I have been taking AlgaeCal since July 2018, occasionally Strontium and Triple Power 2X daily. I had three compression fractures in 2018. I tried Tymlos, (daily shots), but they knocked me out. Then my Endo Dr wanted me get the Prolia shot, and I said, No. He kept calling to convince me to take it. I now have a new Endo Dr, so far I like her, but only one apt. She wanted me to take fosamax, but I said, No. Told her I was sticking with the A/Cal; my next Dex Scan is next April, and hoping for bone growth and strengthening. I feel better, but also exercise a lot, and have changed my eating. Good Luck,

I am about to commence Algaecal and strontium. They claim amazing improvments in bone density and reference clinical research papers to back up their claims. I won't know effects until next bone density scan next year.

Hi; No bone scan until April, 2020, which is two years since the last scan. Feeling positive and hopeful tho.
Best of Luck with your decision.
