Members shared a wide variety of approaches to treating osteoporosis naturally, including plant-based calcium supplements like Garden of Life Raw Calcium and New Chapter Bone Health, homemade eggshell powder, strontium supplements, and dietary changes like juicing organic vegetables. Several members expressed confusion and concern after their doctors advised against calcium supplements due to potential heart risks, while others explained that calcium paired with vitamin K2 directs calcium to bones rather than arteries, preventing cardiovascular calcification. A recurring theme was frustration with prescription medications like Fosamax, with multiple members sharing that they progressed from osteopenia to osteoporosis while on these drugs, leading them to seek natural alternatives and await future DEXA scans to measure success.

I buy organic eggs, boil the empty shells, dry them out totally, under a grill or in the oven for a couple of minutes. Grind to a fine powder. Walla!! Natural calcium. Sprinkle it in curries or whatever you want. xx

I've been taking Garden of Life Raw Calcium for almost 1 year. I purchase it at my local Pharmaca, but it is also on Pharmaca website as well. I also do aerobics with weights (probably not as many times weekly as I should.) Hopefully, I can have a bone density scan this summer to see if this natural treatment is working for me. I strayed from Osteopenia to Osteoporosis while taking Fosamax so I totally stopped it last year and opted for the natural, Raw Calcium.

There are vegetable based Calciums that contain Vitamin K-2. This vitamin directs Calcium to your bones and NOT to your heart, thus preventing calcification of heart muscle and arteries. Unfortunately, must medical doctors don’t have this information about supplements and vitamins. A good supplement pharmacy, like Pharmaca, have employees who know more about natural remedies and how they work. Don’t let your MD discourage you from taking Calcium—just find one with K-2 and Google the research in how it works.

I take New Chapter for Bone Health plus a Strontium from The Vitamin Shoppe. I’m doing this for about a year but won’t know until next years DEXA if it’s working. I just refuse to take those meds for it....
