I was on Forteo for 15 months and my spine went from -2.9 to -3.0. My Endocronoglist and I agreed that I was going in the wrong direction. I am 61 and have a rare hormone disease called Kallman's Syndrome. We thought we would try Bonvia, Supplements, and a low dose of HRT. I take Climara Pro patch but only a half a patch a week. The regular does is 1 patch a week so it's a very low dose. I know that there are risks associated with HRT treatment for women my age but I feel that saving my bones… read more
Anyone's doctor recommend this. Mine wants me to take it for Osteoporosis. When I read the side effects I get unsure about taking it.
When I google it, it does say it is used to treat Osteoporosis after menopause.
Do you know if there has been any research to determine if babies of mothers given Diethylstilboestrol (DES Baby) are more likely to develop Osteoporosis? I am the only child, out of 100+ relatives of two generations that has been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I am also the only DES baby in the family. Thanks for looking into this.
I realize that if mom had not been given the drug, I would not have been a miscarriage or another stillborn. Just curious that is all.
Is there anything that a woman can 5ake that isn't going rapid weight gain? I have gone from 248 to 179 lbs...now with 5 weeks of Fosamax I am 184. I worked to hard to lose the weight...I have a growth on my L4 and L5 and have a compression fracture of L5. I needed to lose weight for the surgery to take the growth off. Now I can barely walk, so I can't do 4 miles that I was doing every day.
I fractured my femur bone, had surgery to implant titanium rods, and took a long time to recover. My diagnosis is Osteoporosis. I take Tums for calcium. I wonder why I wasn’t prescribed something like Forteo. I was told that my condition usually worsens, and I am high risk for more fractures.
Has anyone else been prescribed only Tums?
I would like to know about osteo treatment. I have multiple thoracic and lumbar compression fractures which have been confirmed by the MRI. I have only been taking one Vit D tablet monthly and was wondering about the HR treatment. Have had to recently give up my 45 minute walks as well. Jenny NZ
I have had to have a hip replacement April 2019. I have to have a shoulder replacement in a week September 2020. My other shoulder is starting to get worse! My knee is going. Don’t know if I should continue the Prolia. I also now wonder if I should have anymore surgery till my bones are stronger and if they aren’t just give up trying
That would depend on what an MRI of your shoulder showed. You might have a frozen shoulder like my BFF had, and physical therapy took care of that for her.
I am scheduled for a hip replacement in March due to arthritis but have also been told due to my osteoporosis they may need to use cement because my femur is that of an 80 year old. I am only 63.
I have recently had a mysterious pelvic hip fracture so my dr has recommended Prolia injections. Just seeking some info on your experience with this treatment. Did it increase bone density? Did you experience side effects? Do you think it is an effective treatment? Would really appreciate your comments! Thanks!
