I was told to take vit D 5000 a day for Osteopenia (borderline Osteoporosis). Is it good to take
calcium also? Should I go to my regular doctor of a specialist.
Suggestions.
thank you,
i'm really curious about Algae Cal too has anyone used it and seen the dramatic results they claim?
I have osteoporosis for several years and have been putting off taking any meds as I am scared with all the reported side effects. I was sent to a rheumatologist and he says I am at risk for fracture as my scan readings are at critical levels and I must take something. He suggests Fosamax to start. I know I have no choice and am very worried but he explained my probability of having a fracture is much greater than any side effects I take calcium and Vitamin D. I appreciate any insight all… read more
My body doesn’t seem to absorb vit d even when I was taking 10000units as my level was 17.
I am now on 2000 units daily and still only in the high 20.

My density score was T-2.9 when diagnosed year ago at 58
What can I do
Do you have any kind of intestinal disorder like ibs, crohns, something that would maybe cause malabsorbtion of minerals and vitamins? Because I have a lot of trouble absorbing nutrients too. I've had… read more
Like you Elizabeth, I am also afraid of the medication for osteoporosis. I have been taking K2, D3, B12, and Collagen Peptides. My doctor took me off of calcium years ago, said my calcium level was… read more
Calcium supplements cause constipation for me and since I have had issues with this due to a bowel obstruction surgery, as well as IBS with fibromyalgia, more of that issue I really don't need. Is there any calcium product that is less constipating? I do take 3000mg vit D and 200 mg Magnesium daily and eat a lot of calcium rich foods.
I buy it 2 bottles at a time and always get the 120 quantity bottles to save money

What is the best Calcium, I should take?
I have heard, actually from my bone and osteoporosis Dr. Taking Calcium Caltrate does absolutely nothing. That and I will spell this wrong but will try, hydroxipate, it is in with the calcium I take… read more
The best way to figure out how much vitamin D you need to take is by monitoring your levels with blood tests periodically.
I've been taking Algaecal (the non mail order one, so no strontium). And then Vitamin K in my Vitamin D. But I've been thinking of trying calcium citrate alongside Lorna Vanderhaeghe's Bone Booster. I do suffer from constipation so not sure if I can handle the calcium citrate or not.
Many thanks,
Wendy
I use Osteo Complete by Healthspan. I trust their manufacturing and ingrediants.

Personally I take 70mg alendronate tablet 1x a week for the last year. My worse t-score is -3.3 in one of my vertebrae.
Thank you!
Calcium Citrate is more easily absorbed by bones and taking K2 with calcium will direct it to bones, not the heart. I have stopped taking Alendronate after 2 1/2 yrs because of the potential… read more
