Great question! Acid reflux is a common concern with oral bisphosphonates (like Fosamax or Actonel). The good news is there are several alternatives that bypass the digestive system entirely.
Here are some options that are less likely to cause acid reflux:
- Zoledronic acid (Reclast) – A bisphosphonate given as a yearly IV infusion, so it skips the stomach completely
- Denosumab (Prolia) – An injection given every 6 months; common side effects are muscle/bone pain or fatigue, not typically digestive issues
- Romosozumab (Evenity) – A monthly injection that both builds bone and slows bone loss
- Teriparatide (Forteo) – A daily injection that stimulates new bone growth No medication is completely without risk, so it's really important to talk with your doctor about which option suits your specific situation best. Factors like fracture risk, kidney health, and other medications you take will all play a role in finding the right fit for you.

I've heard a lot of BAD side effects on Evenity and Prolia I'll check out your Rx - never heard of it! Right now I give myself Forteo shots - easy to do but I still have about 25% acid reflux- better than the other Rx's But looking for 0%! LOL Thanks for the suggestions!

I disagree with the AI answer. As an ‘actual’ user of both Evenity and now Prolia, I along with many others I’ve heard from, developed GERD while on Evenity and it got worse while on Prolia. I’m currently on 80mg of Famoatidine, (since PPI’s are contributors to OP) and I’m still having breakthrough. It may not have come up during trials but it has certainly come up, considerably, since there are real people talking back

Take atelvia to avoid the reclast. Make sure you see a dentist before you start it.
