That fear is completely understandable, and so many people with osteoporosis feel exactly the same way. The good news is there are real, practical steps that can help reduce both the risk of falling and that constant worry.
Back pain and balance issues often go hand in hand with osteoporosis, so addressing both together makes a lot of sense.
Here are some things that can help with balance and fall prevention:
- Physical therapy — great for building strength, improving balance, and managing pain
- Tai chi or yoga — gentle exercises proven to improve balance and flexibility
- Use a cane or walker outdoors if feeling unsteady
- Remove tripping hazards at home — loose rugs, electrical cords, clutter
- Add grab bars in the bathroom and improve lighting in stairwells and hallways
- Use night lights throughout the home One MyOsteoTeam member shared a helpful mindset shift: changing thinking from *"I am afraid of falling"* to *"I am cautious so I do not fall."* That small reframe can make a real difference.
It's also worth talking to a doctor about whether any current medications might be affecting balance or increasing fall risk. Always check in with a healthcare provider before starting any new exercise routine, especially with existing fractures and back pain.

Hi! Silly question but do you wear bifocal glasses? I did but learned the ones with blended lenses distort the vision immediately in front of you. I stopped wearing bifocal and tripping has much improved. I just wear regular glasses for driving and carry reading glasses if I need them. Just a thought.

I worry about falling too. I am now doing physical therapy to work on my balance. Balance is a big problem. I have had some close calls but so far so good. Ask your doctor for physical therapy for balance.
