Are there others with osteoporosis who decide not to take medication even after their doctor advises it?

Yes, absolutely — and you're far from alone in feeling uncertain. Many MyOsteoTeam members have shared similar hesitations. One MyOsteoTeam member shared that their doctor suggested yearly IV therapy, but they were leaning toward a more holistic approach instead.

It's a very personal decision, and it's completely understandable to have questions or concerns. That said, it's worth knowing the risks of leaving osteoporosis untreated:

- Bones continue to weaken over time
- The risk of fractures — especially in the hip, spine, and wrist — increases
- After one fracture, the risk of another goes up
- Spinal fractures can cause loss of height or a hunched posture
- Hip fractures can be especially serious

If medication feels daunting, it may help to have an open conversation with your doctor about all available options. There are several types of treatments, from weekly pills to yearly infusions, so there may be something that feels more manageable.

Lifestyle changes like weight-bearing exercise, calcium, vitamin D, and fall prevention measures can also support bone health alongside — or while weighing — medication options.
