Certain bones are more vulnerable because of how they're structured and used:

* Weight-bearing bones like the spine, hips, and wrists experience more stress and are more prone to fractures
* Bones with more trabecular (spongy) tissue, like vertebrae, lose density faster than bones with dense cortical tissue
* Areas that experience repetitive stress or previous injury may show more weakness

The genetic component means you may have inherited factors that affect how your body builds and maintains bone density overall. However, environmental factors like diet, exercise, medications, and other health conditions also play a major role in which bones are affected and how severely.

Even though some bones may seem healthy while others are weaker, osteoporosis is generally a systemic condition affecting your entire skeleton to varying degrees.
