Members shared deeply personal experiences with managing relentless nerve pain from spinal fractures and osteoporosis, offering both medication options and holistic approaches that have brought them relief. Several members found help through medications like Amitriptyline for sleep and pain, Gabapentin for nerve pain, Baclofen for back pain, and heating pads, while others emphasized the value of calming herbal teas, Ashwagandha, gentle chair exercises, daily walks with mobility aids, and creative outlets to distract from pain. A recurring theme was the emotional and spiritual side of coping, with many members stressing the importance of patience during healing, trusting in faith, allowing themselves to cry and rest without guilt, and finding joy in small pleasures like music, nature, and meaningful hobbies despite the daily struggle.

Hi Helen!
I have had a crush fracture in my spine, so l know how it hurts! Looking back, l was petrified of reinjuring or worsening it, so became very tense in my back and shoulders, which caused pain of its own. I can see why l was like that, but l wish l had known that one day, the pain would be gone, and the bone would be rebuilding. I could have had more calmative teas, which would have lowered my stress levels, thus lessening my pain, and l could have been less afraid, and more patient. Hopefully, the lesson is learnt! 😬 l did drink a sleep tea before bed, and take Ashwaganda (Indian ginseng) (Withania somnifera), both of which relaxed me, and gave a good sleep. One of the brands of sleep teas l buy is Higher Living "Good Night" herbal tea, and it's made in the UK, so you should be able to get it, Helen. [Units 3/4 Crays Court, Crays Farm, Crays Lane, Thakeham, West Sussex RH20 2GU www.higherlivingherbs.com]. I hope that is helpful. [For those in the USA, l also get Celestial Seasonings "Sleepytime" herbal tea]. Both good. Camomile tea is very relaxing for daytime use. I still use all of those, as l have fibromyalgia, and my back still has bad days (especially when l do things that are a bit ahead of my healing!😬).
I also have learnt to trust God. That trust gets me through many a painful episode. He has also gotten me through severe bouts (long and short) of self-doubt, depression and anxiety, over my entire lifetime. I am getting better at trusting, and worrying/stressing less, and as a consequence, have less pain everywhere. I have also learnt to cry more frequently, which has led to less meltdowns through not holding onto pain (physical/mental/emotional); not letting it build up!
I also have made sure that my creative side is well taken care of, through being part of a writers group, which gets me writing and illustrating. I have one rest day(Saturday), on which l get to choose whatever l want to do... picnic, gardening, stamp collecting, card making, reading in the shade of my trees, having a long cuppa with my elderly neighbour, going for a walk and taking photos of what l find... it has taken me 2 years to gradually unwind (and not feel guilty for relaxing!!), but the rest of my week has also gradually improved! I am a better person on the inside, for it, and of more use to the world in which l have been put. I am Happier! Whoo-hoo. It is so good to become mostly happy, instead of mostly morose!
Well, l hope that all of this has been helpful to you, and anyone else reading...
Love and hugs, from Australia. I will be praying for you. Keep getting well...
