All medications I think come with risks but doctors promise to care for patients so they have to weigh up the risks.

There are 3 drugs that I know affect bones.
Phenobarbital, Levothyroxin and Protonix. All of which I am on and have been on 2 of them for many years. ( since I was 9 and 16 years old ) Not sure about Prednisone. Would need to research that.

Idont know the answer to that what I do know is my long term breathing medication I.e. inhalers caused my fractures because I have osteoporosis. Also I have been on proton inhibitors for years I read the enclosed leaflet for the first time last week and if you have osteoporosis they can cause fractures. Doctors don’t have a choices they need to keep us alive it must be so difficult . Jean you could talk to your doctors and ask they I just know what has happened to me. Sending my best wishes.

Bone density loss

Long-term steroid use (longer than a month) can lead to loss of bone density, which also ups your risk for bone fractures. Some patients lose as much as 10% to 20% of their bone mass in the first six months of treatment.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I know that Prednisone can cause or aggravate arthritis...and exacerbate bone loss.
