When have fracture, does dr do x-ray or MRI to know for sure? Or do they assume cause of pain? How did u discover u had fracture....thru tests & Drs diagnosis?

In my case, l had sustained the crush fracture, and weathered extreme pain for weeks, but didn't know what l'd done, and didn't go to the doc, as they had pulled out of our town due to cost issues, and l had no transport. Also was sick of docs, and the pain had dissipated quite a bit after my church family prayed. 18 months later, with hardly any pain ever, as long as l moved well, l read a description of the exact pain l had had, on an osteoporosis website, and l realised what had happened. So, l went to the doc and asked for an Xray to confirm. She thought it likely, as l had been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis 5 years before. The Xray confirmed a crush fracture, with 40% bone loss at the front. Hence my feeling of never standing totally upright. As with any fracture, sometimes they won't show on an Xray because of swelling onsite, and other times it won't show until the break has calcified a couple of weeks later, and it's the covering blob of calcium that shows that a break is there, and healing.
As an important side note, our bodies are designed to go into healing mode immediately after a fracture, but they do need adequate quantities of the right building materials to do so well. A dear friend of mine was in a very bad car accident, with multiple, multiple fractures. Over a year later, she has just had to have her teeth removed, because they were crumbling. Her body was healing her bones, and had prioritised mending her skeleton over keeping her teeth good, so calcium was borrowed from her teeth, to help with the healing needed. As she was healing, she was also unable to eat well, due to injuries to her jaw. And she had no sunlight exposure, due to being in hospital. No doctor thought to prescribe her calcium, vitD [or K2(7) ]. She is only in her mid 30's. I am glad she is not bitter. Our bodies can only do the best they can with what building materials they are supplied with. Let it be a lesson to us all! Love to everyone...keep on healing! God bless. ❤🌷🙂👍💪🦴

Hi London maybe you need to look at changing your pcp( which is short for what?)as you need someone who knows a lot or little about op. And of course who listens to you. My experience with GP,s now is if you have op or arthritis then every pain and feeling is due to” oh it’s arthritis, wear and tear “ age related” when it is not always the case. Please find a gp who has some knowledge of your condition who you can talk to and hears you. My experience is self help exercise keep moving, eating plenty good food, some supplements , with the supplements make sure your GP does advise them , not just take others word for it 🌈

Hi through X-ray I was told I had 3 , the extreme pain I had for about 8 weeks must have been the fractures. I was stood in the garage I sneezed and thought my back had broke , only for my husband being stood next to me I would have fell to the floor.for years I was back and forth to GP before they referred me to specialist who discovered 3 compressed vertebrae through an X-ray(fractures) . However 8 years later I am still in pain daily and have shrunk 3 inches. Now I just get told by GP it’s arthritis , it’s back pain due to wear and tear or vertebrae’s rubbing. Thinking of you 🙏Joan woodward

I had a DEXA scan ordered by my GP. He phoned me at home once he'd got the results and told me I had a broken vertebra L5, which he said it's a very rare bone to break as it's at the base of the spine.

Osteoporosis is not the end of life for us, it’s just a new and challenging way to live our lives. Get yourself to a good specialist who knows what drugs are available for you and can point you in the right direction for a life mostly free of worry about fractures. They happen! It’s the osteoporosis drugs that are new out there rebuilding bone and giving you a fighting chance to get your life back. Please feel free to message me if you need anything, I’m always available, take care
