Members discussed transitioning from Prolia to Fosamax, with many noting that bisphosphonates like Fosamax are typically recommended as first-line treatment while Prolia is often reserved for more severe cases or when other options have failed. Several members shared their own experiences, including one who successfully improved from osteoporosis to osteopenia on Prolia, another who found relief from pain using turmeric alongside treatment, and one who experienced severe body aches on Prolia but tolerated Fosamax better. A recurring theme was the stress and confusion around managing calcium levels, stopping medications for dental procedures, balancing the risk of side effects like jaw disease, and the challenge of maintaining bone health through diet and exercise while navigating conflicting medical advice.

Margaret Martin, P.T. has a very informative utube video regarding osteoporosis meds. She interviews Janet Rubin, M.D. Endocrinologist. It might be helpful for your particular situation.

I want to avoid meds as long as I can. Have been doing water walking.

Prolia about killed me. Every part of my body ached. Then took Fosamax but had to quit to have a tooth pulled. Now wondering how long I have to wait after having it pulled to start taking it again. That is if I don't get jaw disease which is a side affect of all of them. Fosamax once a week for a couple months did not cause any pain.

I have tried my whole life to eat for bone health because osteoporosis runs in my family and I found it very hard. Have resorted to supplements. So far staying in the osteopenia range. I am 75.

My new Dr. told me, according to research, there is no need to take Calcium or Vit D unless I have a deficiency in either and to get it from the food I eat. I will be going off Prolia and taking Fosamax in Jan/23.
