Members shared widely varied experiences with the duration of Prolia treatment, with some told they would stop after two years or ten injections, while others have been on it for seven to nine years and learned they may need to continue indefinitely to avoid rebound fractures. Several members reported improvements in bone density or maintenance of their levels, though some described persistent fatigue, and a few expressed serious concerns after friends experienced broken femurs while on Prolia. A recurring theme was frustration with the lack of clear guidance from doctors about long-term use, concerns about side effects across osteoporosis medications, and the importance of supplementing with calcium and vitamin D while staying physically active.

Have been on Prolia for 8 years. As of now, it is not recommended to discontinue twice yearly injections as the mechanism of action is not replicated by other medications for osteoporosis. They indicate a significant increase chance of fractures if discontinued. From what I understand, this is the current situation. My Osteoporosis has significantly improved and bone density maintained. My side effects are manageable and take supplemental calcium and Vitamin D3.

I believe that it depends on your bone density levels as to the length of time you need to get the Prolia injections. I also take a daily Vitamin D3 1000iu tablet to hopefully improve my bones.

I also walk around here daily in the sunny subtropical weather conditions in the Sunshine Coast of Queensland Australia and I walk about 4 to 5 kilometres most days

Ask your doctor about the Vitamin D3 and your bone strength and he will be able to guide you

It was overcast and showery Spring weather here today
I took the shower photo of the colourful Australian family and I saw a person moving down on the wire run to the far building

I do not know what to take. I have side effects on most medicines. Fosomax severe hip pain and unbearable stomach pain. So I am hesitant to take forteo. Which my doctor said I should take. I have not taken it.

I didn’t start prolia because 2 doctors told me said it was for life. I refused it because of the list of side effects.

I’m praying for 2 friends now that have been on Prolia and now have broken femurs! They were both in good shape, living their best lives before starting that drug. One is in her 60’s one is in her 70’s. I had 2 more friends that advised me not to start reclast because they felt so much worse after taking it. There has to be something better!

I think it’s time for drug companies to put their resources into some better research for osteoporosis drugs and create some without bad side effects! It seems that every drug offered causes some kind of problem. 😤
