The dexa scan is the bone density test that is the good standard for detecting osteoporosis, and the REM is newest technology, using ultrasound, rather than the low dose of radiation used by the dexa scan. That is how they were explained to me. It isn’t that one is better than the other. I think that the REM technology was more know in Europe and is more recently available in the US. The idea is to have the two kinds of scans if possible and covered by insurance, to get more information about density and bone modeling or condition. I am no expert, but I wondered if anyone had had the experience with the REM technology. Thanks for any information.
