Members shared deeply personal experiences of sciatica disrupting their sleep, with many describing excruciating pain radiating down their legs and feet, severe muscle spasms, and the inability to sleep in a bed anymore. Several members found relief through practical strategies including pain clinic injections (Murcaine and Dexamethasone in the facet joint), sleeping in recliners or adjustable chairs instead of beds, applying ibuprofen gel, and doing targeted exercises, though one member noted anti-inflammatory gel alone provided limited help. A recurring theme was the profound impact of chronic pain on mental health and daily life, the challenge of accessing timely medical care, and the powerful solidarity members felt in knowing others understand their suffering and are willing to share what has worked for them.

Thanks Judy. My first step is to actually arrange a GP appt (overstretched NHS); meanwhile I can try Ibuprofen gel along with analgesis & exercises. Love from Helen.

Hello to you from the Sunshine Coast Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 and l have had severe Sciatica pain recently. I tried rubbing Anti Inflammatory gel into my hip and thigh but it didn’t help much. Eventually I told my doctor that I wasn’t sleeping properly with it and I was referred to the PainClinic for pain injections 2cc Murcaine and 1cc Dexamethasone in the Facet joint above my right hip area in March and it’s working well

Hugs from Judyxx

HI Barb, Thanks for your msgs. Actually I slept in the chair for a couple of weeks, when I was first ill. After a couple of weeks in hospital the OT &Social Services persuaded me the adjustible bed was safer for getting in & out of. re Circulation: I have always had slow metabolism & poor circulation (borderline hypothyroid), and the varicose veins have been getting worse over the years. Since the lock-down, the ankle-swelling during the day, never completely returns to normal size. Thicker than ordinary oedema. The 'tide mark' gradually crept up to knee in a few months; Left much worse than Right. It slowly receded to half-way up the calf,so the lower half of leg is perpetually swollen & discoloured. They did tests to rule out DVT & Cardiac insufficiency. My GP suggested a scan, which has been requested. Seems she has no clearer idea than Ido of what it is! I will keep you informed. Thanks for your interest. I like to know & understand all of what's going on &why!
