I had my second injection of prolia a month ago. Last week I broke a tooth off down to the gum. It will have to be surgically removed. I'm a little concerned. Has anyone on Prolia had to have dental work
This is a common problem. Some dentists are apparently telling their patients to stop Prolia for a few months and then have invasive dental work eg. extraction, done. The problem is that you CANNOT miss a Prolia injection by even a few weeks without risking having multiple spontaneous vertebral fractures. The bone forums are full of terrible stories posted by women who were given incorrect advice by their dentists and are now severely disabled. Knowledgeable dentists will send their patients to an oral surgeon.
No. I had my last injection in Sept 2019 - too many unpleasant side effects in the two years I was on it. I am now on Actonel (risedronate) as a relay drug to get me off Prolia safely. I will hopefully be weaning myself off Actonel in 6-12 months once I'm beyond the danger period. After that, I intend to exercise and continue to take supplements like vitamin K2, boron, magnesium, etc which I'm on now anyway. These osteo drugs cause more harm than good, in my opinion.
The dentist told me I could not have a tooth extraction for 6 months after prolia injection.
It is advised I had it done no shots for 2 months to make sure no locked jaw and other problems my oesto dr and dentist told me. I have been trying to get a darn shot since oct which will be my 6th prolia shot. Was getting ready to get one then Lyme so getting one in few weeks. I have never had side effects on prolia shot.
