Members reached out with reassurance to someone newly diagnosed with osteoporosis, emphasizing that pain levels vary widely from person to person, ranging from no symptoms at all to fractures that require careful management, so taking things one day at a time without excessive worry is key. Several members shared practical strategies for bone health, including prioritizing vitamin D from sunshine and supplements, calcium, potassium, and protein, along with strength training and balance exercises to prevent falls, while some are seeking second opinions before starting medications like Reclast. A recurring theme was the importance of self-education, listening to your body, being cautious with bending and lifting, and leaning on the community for support as you navigate this new diagnosis.

You probably will have some pain, just depends on if/when you get fractures. The severity of osteoporosis will vary from person to person. It could be you go the rest of your life without it bothering you at all, or you end up like me, or could be anywhere in between. So just take it one day at a time. Listen to your doctor (if you have a good one) and try to limit the potential exposure of getting a fracture.

Thats ok Barbara, i think most of us start this journey not really knowing what to do. The simplest thing i can think of is dont stress about it. I know thats easier said than done. All you can really do is take everything one step at a time.

Best Vit D is sunshine, without sunblock. But don’t overdo it.

I was recently diagnosed, too, and I am trying to educate myself as much as possible. I am gradually incorporating a healthier, purposeful life style. I am hoping that keeping my muscles strong and my ability to balance will go a long ways to prevent falls. I am also very careful when bending and lifting. Right now, I am holding off on Reclast IV which I was offered. I do have an appointment with an endocrinologist to get a second opinion. Best wishes.
