Hyperparathyroidism And Osteoporosis
A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am vegetarian, I had hypercalcaemia and hyperparathyroidism, I now have osteoporosis as a result. I had a parathyroid ectomy. Can I improve the bone density in my spine with diet and exercise? The dexa scan nurse thinks not but she is ignorant of vegetarianism, what does anyone else think please?

You might be able to, but it will depend on what your dexascan says. The more mild the disease of osteo, the better your chance is. Since you are a vegetarian, I would seek help from a dietitian. Hugs!

Daisy, hello and welcome to this wonderful group!

I'm sorry I have no experience with your ailments, hopefully someone else on here does and will share their experiences.

Take care of you and I hope you find effective solutions that you're comfortable with. 💚

I had the same surgery about six months ago. I was told there is a possibility my density would increase. Would be wonderful, but I am not holding my breath. I was also told that any bone change would be very slow. I have almost a year before insurance will pay for another scan. Of course I am anxious to have it.
