Members shared mixed experiences with Forteo, with some reporting stronger bones and others describing worsening DEXA scores or complications like kidney stones that led doctors to discontinue the medication. Several members transitioned to Prolia after Forteo, with most reporting no significant side effects, though one member noted it did not improve their spine density despite helping other areas. A recurring theme was frustration with the trial-and-error nature of osteoporosis treatment, the importance of monitoring calcium and parathyroid levels, and exhaustion with managing multiple medications and doctor visits.

Have your doctor check your calcium levels in your blood. If over 10.2, have him check your parathyroid levels. Your body may be making too much calcium.

ginny I understand the drs. tired of it all, Priola is ok and no side effects, but it didn't anything for my spine … my legs, arms and hips are -2.4 but my spine -3.8 and getting worse. my back continually aches, and think I did something to my verab rae.. again...another dr found out I had a fracture on my vert. about 5 yrs. ago. it seems like we osteo people have to know more than the drs. do. love this forumn as it keeps us all up to date ……

I did Actonel and Atelvia. After 14 years on those, did Forteo for 18 months, my dexa went from bad to worse. Research Algaecal, I'm being on it since Aug.2018, I really feel much better, exercise, eating the alkaline way to better the ph in my body. I am 64 years old. Tired of medicines with so many bad side effects, give it a try!!!
