I find that a lot of walking and standing for long periods makes the pain more severe. Are there any exercises that could help with this. I have a gazelle exercise machine.

Members responded warmly to a question about managing lower back pain worsened by walking and standing, with the most consistent recommendation being warm water therapy such as aquafit or pool-based physical therapy, which several members described as gentle on bones and deeply soothing. Many community members shared practical strategies including moist heat applications, stretching exercises like bending at the knees and stomach, working with a trained physical therapist or osteo-focused trainer to strengthen supporting muscles, and surprisingly, daily walking, which one member found counterintuitive but effective. A recurring theme was the importance of identifying the root cause of pain through medical imaging, listening to your body's limits, and finding movement that feels supportive rather than harmful.

Exercising has definitely helped my back pain but you need to find the source of it first so you don't injure yourself. I work with a trainer who is well trained herself in osteo. We do upper one day and lower the next. I never hurt afterwards. Stay away from the phony trainers who just take you thru a circuit with no clue.

My doctor recommended walking for back pain; I do it every morning and can tell a difference when I miss a day. Seems counter-intuitive but it does work. I also have acupuncture for various aches and pains.
