Alendronate can cause severe fracturing of the femur. I was on Fosamax for 10 years. I took myself off of it when I learned about that and consider myself lucky I didn't have any side effects after taking it so long. I would ask your doctor for an explanation.
Yes it was NICE UK. I used to go to Osteo meetings and the matron from Rheumatology from our hospital cane and gave a talk. It was discovered that five years did the work and after that time it didn't, so leave it and start again in five years. This was told when I had been taking mine for 10 years, so if I didn't go to that meeting no doubt I would have still been taking it. Anyway all I know is that medication worked for me as I have had no fractures or compressions in any part of the body. So blessed. Hope that answers your question Robbi. X
We had a Rheumatology Matron who came to a Osteoporosis meeting and Explained that Risidronate and other makes of the osteoporosis meds which are taken 1 a week. NICE had been informed from experts information they Should be stopped after five years as they don't do any more good, but to go back on them after five years. Still to take Calcium and vitamin D.
I had been taking them for ten years, with no side affects whatsoever, and went back on them after the five years.
I do believe a little walking and exercise dies keep your strength up if you are able to, not always easy.🤔 💕😀❤️ Sending hugs x
Why is the 5 year mark the magic time to quite the drug. This means you were good to take it up to 5 years.... does not make sense to me. Is there a credited study that was done to pick the time limit of 5 years? Why not 3 years or 4 years?
Be good to have an injection, rather than a tablet once or twice a year X Take care all, no breaks etc lol Margaret sending hugs 😀💝❤️X
