I was diagnosed today. I haven’t stopped crying. I have been a very healthy person. I’m scared after reading about the side effects of all those medications. I wonder if there are people who have decided not to take any medication and treat it just with a good diet and exercise. Is that a good idea?
Thanks,
Hi Vivian, I don’t take meds except the calcium tablets proscribed by Doctor, I take long walks most days eat plenty of fruit & vegetables & usually do Pilates 4 mornings a week, I’ve not long come… read more
Per my PCP's advise I took Actonel for my severe osteoporosis. After 10 mos. I stopped taking it because of the horrible side effects (fever, nausea, digestive issues, hair loss). He is now pushing me to take Prolia and I really want to try a natural route (without side effects) for a year until my next bone density test. Thinking of AlgaeCal Plus/Strontium Boost. Any opinions?
Still on Prolia after 9 years. Dexa due October, will report results.
No side effects and last Dexa 2020 was positive.
My mother took Fosamax for over 8 years and still broke her hip. I have friends who have tried the shots and still broken bones. What have you found the most effective treatment for osteoporosis? I am also trying the exercise program by Margaret Martin. I already exercise daily and this helps me focus on a program particular to osteoporosis; including tips on what not to do. I have also heard that your diet is also a factor? Has anyone found this to be true? Thanks so much.
I had been on Prolia about 6 years. It wasn't helping much but at least I wasn't getting worse
Then because of a change in medical personnel at the center where I got it, there was a brief delay about 4 weeks or so) in getting my shot. There were no warnings about the danger of delay; I was just told my appointment would be later when the new doctor was available, and there were no warnings in Amgen's info to alert me. As a result I suffered three vertebral fractures and have been disabled… read more
I'm afraid of doing anything except walking and swimming for fear of hurting myself, but I get bored with these. My osteoporosis is mild in my spine and moderate in my hips. I've had two crush fractures. My back can be extremely painful. I've tried Pilates and yoga, but some of the excersises really hurt my upper back, so I end up not doing anything! I used to love cycling, but I've lost all my confidence and can't balance anymore as I'm so scared of falling off.
Try chair yoga.
After reading her book, I feel she has an incredible wealth of knowledge about how to help rebuild bone density with proper nutrition and exercise. On Betterbones.com, it shows you can consult with her ($325). It sounds like she will look at an individual's test results, review tests that have been done, discuss others that could be done, and provide insight and recommendations based on a person's unique situation. I am tempted to do this because I would like an expert's viewpoint on whether… read more
Hi, did you ever have your consultations with Susan Brown? if you did, would you please share any information? thank you from all of us!!!
My first injection went just fine, but after my second one my lips swelled up, so I had to quit.
When I joined this site, the box asking for whether I had Osteoporosis I or Osteoporosis II did not show the end of the item. Can anyone explain to me what the difference is? My doctor has only ever identified it as Osteoporosis (in spine) and Osteopenia (in hips). Thanks.
I Googled it and this is what I found: There are two types of osteoporosis: Type I osteoporosis (postmenopausal osteoporosis) generally develops in women after menopause when the amount of estrogen… read more

My body doesn’t seem to absorb vit d even when I was taking 10000units as my level was 17.

My density score was T-2.9 when diagnosed year ago at 58
What can I do
Do you have any kind of intestinal disorder like ibs, crohns, something that would maybe cause malabsorbtion of minerals and vitamins? Because I have a lot of trouble absorbing nutrients too. I've had… read more
