I Had A Lumbar Fusion Last Year And It Is Not Healing As Quickly As I Expected. Does Osteopenia Affect Healing?
A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

My last MRI was in August and there is no bone growth, but the screws are stable. Have not had a new DEXA scan, but due at the end of next year. It has been exactly one year now. Still have some symptoms, but managing.

Dear Jan152, I won't be on this site for very much longer but just want to say that if you take no magnesium you will not absorb calcium. My sister age 66 broke her ankle and is finding it was not healing hardly at all after months and she finds the magnesium more of a help than she expected and her ankle now is beginning to heal along with some calcium. Magnesium is good for the heart and blood pressure and other things.

Yes osteopenia will affect any healing of the bones. Anyone taking calcium without magnesium you can likely be sure you will have pain. You need to take two parts calcium and one part magnesium. If you can take dairy products yogurt is good for healing and probiotics plus kefir and bone broth. I hope you don't mind me mentioning this.

Dear Debjoy, Don't worry about my situation as it is the most bizarre story and both my doctors agree that something is going around about me. I just wanted to say that usually you should take two parts calcium and one part magnesium and one hour apart and no more than 1500 mg calcium per day. Hope that helps

Dear Debjoy, I am not a doctor but of what I do know perhaps you may find healing by stopping the calcium pill and taking vitamin D and magnesium. I studied all about the vitamin D this morning all morning and read that by taking vitamin D you elevate the calcium level and so you don't need more calcium as too much of it can prevent bones from healing. Try it for a while and see how you feel. Also some medications can deplete the body of either calcium and or magnesium. My friend is in great shape at 80 taking prolia for a long time. No side effects at all with her or her friends on it. They are saying that the B complex vitamins do help with pain or arthritis if it is that causing it. I am so delighted to hear from someone on this team as you are about the only one who has responded. I am going to pray for you as I always want to help people. Let me know how it goes.

Dear Debjoy, Yes osteoporosis does affect healing. Prolia a bone building drug seems to be the ony one that works with no side effects. I will get back to you with some natural things for bones but maybe tell me just what you are taking. Thanks
