Experience With Fosamax?

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, my mom (67) was diagnosed with Osteo one year ago but does not want to take any medication. Her doctor recommended Fosamax. What have been your experiences with it? Positive and negative.

Or with Actonel, Boniva, Reclast? Or something else?

I want to try to help her find a treatment to prevent her from having a fracture or further bone loss.

Members shared mixed experiences with osteoporosis medications in response to someone seeking advice for their 67-year-old mother who was hesitant to start treatment. Several members reported positive outcomes with Prolia (some taking it for 5 to 10 years with no side effects), while others mentioned switching from Fosamax to Forteo after seeing strong bone-strengthening results, or experiencing illness and allergic reactions to Reclast. A recurring theme was the importance of finding the right medication through trial and persistence, with members noting that even when natural approaches failed to stop bone loss, medications like Fosamax helped slow progression and maintain bone density.

I asked that question. She said they do provide Prolia but only to those have a very serious case.

I have taken Fosamax. I switched Forteo because my mom took Forteo years ago and it really made a big difference in strengthening her bones

I only have experience with Prolia. And I didn't have any side affects. My new Kaiser doctor is now suggesting Reclast or Fosamax. With Fosamax your mom would take a pill once a week. Relcast is a once a year infusion
