When I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis 4 years ago, I was prescribed Fosomax. I developed esophagitis from the drug and stopped taking it. Following a wrist fracture and subsequent surgery to repair damage, I was referred to an endocrinologist who prescribed Prolia. I wish I had researched that drug before getting the shot because I was miserable for over 6 months with many adverse side effects. I developed hyperparathyroidism and had surgery which removed 3 and 1/4 parathyroid glands. I… read more

When I diagnosed with osteoporosis 13 years ago I was prescribed Fosamax.I was 5 years on it and received acid reflux and still have it.More than 10 years I am on medication and I can’t stop taking them. This is not good for osteoporosis because affect assimilation of calcium. The best is first to try better nutrition, exercises and vitamins and than go to medications.

2017, my spine collapsed with fractures, Dr had ignored pain for previous 2 years saying that it was due to 50 years of nursing. Long story short, I had one shot of Prolia with no benefits or side effects. Rheumatologist started me on Aclasta/Reclast and referred me to Endocrinologist. Had a total Thyroidectomy. Still have trouble stabilising thyroid levels. Aclasta gave me muscle discomfort for 2 weeks after the infusions but that’s all. This site recommended VitK2 which I take religiously. I take VitD 2000 iu daily with magnesium at night for cramps. Calcium from food only which is working. VitB is a must for nervous tension. Exercise is my pain killer, seated Pilates is brilliant together with walking and stretching. Got my latest Dexa and blood results yesterday and the Rheumatologist is delighted with the results. Bloods are perfect too. I eat only fresh with minimal wheat, sugar, alcohol and coffee. Green tea and 2 litres of room temperature water is essential for my well being. Am due my 4th infusion in April. Before embarking on any treatment get all dental work done. I lost teeth initially but none since I changed my life style.
Good luck to you all. 🤗

I’m so sorry to read about your experiences with osteo medications. I recently saw a Harvard medical bulletin in the form of a magazine that addresses osteo issues. I think it’s available online as well for $29. I’m going to order it just to see if it has advice about nutrition, exercise and vitamins. I just don’t trust medicine. And I know I’m willing to modify my diet and exercise.
