When I was first diagnosed with osteoporosis 4 years ago, I was prescribed Fosomax. I developed esophagitis from the drug and stopped taking it. Following a wrist fracture and subsequent surgery to repair damage, I was referred to an endocrinologist who prescribed Prolia. I wish I had researched that drug before getting the shot because I was miserable for over 6 months with many adverse side effects. I developed hyperparathyroidism and had surgery which removed 3 and 1/4 parathyroid glands. I… read more
To the lady who is taking calcium and vitamin D and no magnesium you couldn't do anything worse. That will make your bones worse. I talked with my doctor and other doctors about this and they agree with me and I could explain it if you want. Without magnesium you won't absorb any calcium at all even from foods. You need two parts calcium and one part magnesium and I am 71 and have studied this since age 16 and if you want there is Adelle Davis books on amazon only $20 or less and she helped me and many doctors she helped and her book Let's Eat Right to keep Fit and Let's Get Well are so good and she was the leading nutritionist in the states and worked with hospitals and doctors. I would not be alive today if it were not for Adelle Davis. Doctors receive less than 4 hours training in nutrition. There is a whole lot more I could say but magnesium is good for blood pressure bones heart all kinds of things. It also helps pain from osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. It helps depression and insomnia and when I was 60 I was told by a specialist my heart was so good I could run in marathon races just from taking magnesium and calcium and also vitamin D is very good too for lungs and ever since taking vitamin D I never got a cold or flu or anything and even got over broncheactisis a serious lung disease.
When I diagnosed with osteoporosis 13 years ago I was prescribed Fosamax.I was 5 years on it and received acid reflux and still have it.More than 10 years I am on medication and I can’t stop taking them. This is not good for osteoporosis because affect assimilation of calcium. The best is first to try better nutrition, exercises and vitamins and than go to medications.
Dear BonJen, I was looking into it and they say that both yogurt and kefir help lactose intolerance and aids in lactose digestion. Especially kefir they say is safe to take if lactose intolerant and aids in lactose digestion.

Dear lady, My doctor told me years ago to make sure I take magnesium if I am going to take calcium and vitamin D. It is very important the doctor said to take two parts calcium and one part magnesium otherwise you won't absorb any calcium and will bring on heart trouble eventually. Also probiotics and kefir are very good when it comes to putting on bone and even eating natural yogurt I knew a man who got out of his walker and over osteoporosis just by eating plain natural yogurt every day. Bone broth is so good for bones and you can order if from amazon callled Organika chicken bone broth. I have found omega 3 fish oils to help psteoarthritis pain an awful lot. My doctor said never in the history of her practice has she seen anyone put on bone like I did.
