I’ve heard that dexa scan only measures density of lumbar region so you can’t know if you have it further up your spine. It’s always my upper back I have pain in.
Hi there I’m ok thank you 🙂
Long term use of omeprazole affects absorbion of calcium and other important things. Found this but there’s other stuff online

Medicine isn’t An exact science I’ve read but I wish they would speak to us about these awful drugs. I got handed a pile of leaflets and got a prescription. I was led to believe that the acid drugs was the answer to bone loss.
Omeprazole according to a new doc in our practice said you’re only supposed to be on them for a fortnight. Your body gets used to them. The osteoporosis epidemic began more or less when HRT proved to be dangerous . Gill Sanson wrote a book called the myth of osteoporosis . It’s an interesting read .
Big hugs

Thank u for your post, u have helped me in several ways. I have been on Omeprazole several months, worked good for heartburn. I will discuss with Dr & stop. Please don't let them forget your dexa scan, we have to b our own best advocate. Tell them it is time for your scan! 😉😉😉😜
I get the impression that scans are to let us know the decline percentage in density. Damaged my stomach and oesophagus taking the drugs alendronate.
Omeprazole given for the inflammation caused by acid reflux. Won’t take the biphosphonates now and I’ve stopped taking the omeprazole, I was on for years , as I found out that leeches the calcium from your bones and you shouldn’t be on it really for any length of time. Medicine is not an exact science , I know but I do wish that communication between medics was better. Diagnosed in 2011 and I ve yet to see a consultant . Third dexa scan due but I feel so forgotten about that I think they’ll not bother.
If 1 in 3 women suffer from this and 1 in 5 men , why is so little being done. Sounds like a serious lacking of attention since at one point , we will all suffer from bone density decline. Over diagnosis? Too little attention spent on educating people.
Maybe being past 60 colours their attitude.
Feeling a tad bitter on behalf of us all.
Mine was the hips and lumbar region, on both of mine, I had a fall in January this year, and they told me that my spine wasn't fractured or broken, but that my arthritis was really severe all the way from my neck to my coxix.
I was always told by pain drs that my spine was fine, they lied.
I now have arthritis osteoporosis and degenerative disc disease.
If I'd not fell and hit my back I wouldn't of known anything.
My feet were xrayed a couple of months ago as I'd got of the drs couch n walked into the leg of the couch, it swelled so bad they xrayed me, the lady said you haven't broken it but your bones are really thin do u, I stopped her before she could continue, and said yep I've got osteoporosis.
I only ever had dexa scans on my lumber and hips, they say they can get a reading and assess the thiness of the bones through that.
I live in the UK so it's no surprise to be why they only assess osteoporosis that way.
Hope that helps u understand things better
Never had that kind of test always had Bone Density test done to see the whole body.
