I take Vitamin D everyday with my calicum. I have just tested below normal Vitamin D. Has anyone had to take massive doses?

My endocrinologist has me on Calcium, vitamin D3 and a prescription of Calcitriol (2 per day) this is active D and helps with absorption of calcium. Has really helped my calcium levels.
