Vit D

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Northern Ireland

I've seen a lot of comments about Vitamin D levels being low, how do we know if it's low? I know I need a blood test to confirm but how did you feel that made you go to the doctor to have it checked, please?
I've been feeling tired and have aches in both my arms and legs arms feel so heavy and tired, I already take Cal D for my Osteoporosis so thought that was enough .
Thank you for your help.

Members shared their experiences discovering low vitamin D levels, with many learning about it only after routine blood work or a doctor's recommendation due to osteoporosis, since low vitamin D often has no obvious symptoms and can quietly affect calcium absorption and bone health. Several members emphasized the importance of annual testing, particularly in winter when levels are lowest, and mentioned taking daily doses ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 IU of vitamin D3, with one member's level starting at zero before normalizing with consistent supplementation. A recurring theme was the need for careful monitoring to avoid taking too much, as overdoing vitamin D carries its own risks, and members encouraged getting blood work done regularly to stay within the safe and effective range.

I was low on D3 upped the dosage and overdid it.
I think everyone that takes extra D3 needs to be monitered. It's easy to overload on it, and that has its own risks.

If you don't get very much sun where you live or aren't outside much, you are probably low on vitamin D. Your vitamin D level can be checked when they do a blood test. You do need to take Vitamin D3 with the calcium for your bones.
