I have low osteopenia in left hip and some osteoporosis in lumbar spine. I started Reclast in 2012, 2013. Didn't have serious side effects. Another doctor suggested prolia and I received injections for 3 1/2 years. The side effects were bone pain and other issues. I want to know how serious side effects are with Reclast? I have acid reflux, IBS, and have a very difficult time taking any pills. I would appreciate any information.
And, I'm 68 and started treatment for osteoporosis about 12 years ago with a VA Nurse Practitioner who eventually referred me to the endocrinologist at the local medical center. Ive taken Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel before Reclast and didn't show improvement with the oral meds but I did with the Reclast.
Additionally I try to stay on an alkaline diet and was told to cut out muscle meat and dairy since they weaken bones..
Thats my experience with osteoporosis. I've probably have had it long before I was diagnosed.
Honestly, I read all the negative reviews about Reclast and canceled my first infusion appointment. I finally went a few days later to have my first infusion. That was 5 years ago and I haven't had any side effects. No broken bones either and my t score increased after the 3rd year.
I go back to my endocrinologist in November to discuss the plan for the next 5 years and discuss my progress.
To me it was worth the risk to build bone mass and maybe avoid a broken bone.
This year was my last year of 5 annual Reclast infusions. I did not have any side effects. My bone density has improved too.
After careful consideration and advice of my endocrinologist, I decided that 5 years of Reclast is better than a broken hip. Its always a trade off and a pay off.
I was offered this treatment & after much reading & researching, plus talking to others who were having treatment, I turned it down.
I’ve Osteoporosis in my spine, hips, knees & feet. I was offered treatment after fracturing the T11 of the spine.
