How Long To Heal Compression Fractures

A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭
Roseburg, OR

I have 6 compression fractures in T12 to L5. I fractured them in December bending over opening a tv tray. Does anyone know how long it takes to heal? It still feels like my vertebra are crushing when I stand!

Members responding to a question about healing time for six compression fractures shared recovery timelines ranging from 6 to 12 weeks up to 15 months, with many noting the frustratingly slow progress and ongoing pain, especially when standing or cooking. Several members described significant relief from kyphoplasty procedures (cementing the vertebrae), though one doctor cautioned that strengthening one area can make others more vulnerable to fracture, while others recommended back braces, hiking sticks for better support, and preparing meals early with rest breaks in between. A recurring theme was the importance of physical therapy, managing osteoporosis with specialists, supplements like AlgaeCal Plus with boron, and gentle exercise such as water aerobics and chair yoga to support long-term bone health.

It does take a while to heal a compression fracture. I have had mine since November. It is feeling better but still have days of pain.

Yes, I had L1, L2 and T12 all cemented, and Yes again, huge relief. A back brace was suggested, but the cement/kyphoplasty procedure was highly recommended since I was in so much pain.

I have lots of help from my husband, and daughter. I am seeing an endocrinologist next month and am hoping he can help with the osteoporosis.
