This site is so frightening! I feel like I am on "death row!"
When I first came here I was terrified of my diagnosis and what that meant for the future. I didn't even know what kind of Dr to go to. Now I get the most comfort from the people here and I hope you will too.
I was given injections of Prolia every 3 months for 2 years and last doctor visit my bone density test showed i have improved so much I no longer register as osteoporosis . Doctor just told me to continue vitamins and everyday stretches and if i do get pain in my back us ibuprofen and they will check it again in 2 years. Prolia is expensive but if you go to their website they will give you a card where you can get a discount and only have to pay i think it was 25.00 dollars a shot.
When I was first diagnosed my doctor scared me, that I shouldn't do anything for risk of breaking. Since starting treatment Forteo for 2 years and Prolia since I have only had one broken wrist, which still hurts, and I tripped and hit it hard. I am just very careful when climbing things and looking for dangers. But I am still living my life. The medication and calcium and vitamin D have helped to strengthen my bones. Only problem is the treatment for the Breast cancer I had to start taking can decrease bone strength, but it is what the doctor wanted me to take. He will check bone density after 1 year then I will decide whether to continue. What I really need to focus on is an exercise program, I started one, but had to quit to work on one of my trailer(which is my income). That is now finished so I am starting it as soon as I get the yard work done out there(that is exercise right?). Need reminders to keep me focusing on the exercise.
Laurie, please don't feel like that. We r here for each other......HUgs xxxxx
