Would Anyone Know How Long Foresto Works In Our System After Completing 2 Year Course Please?
A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

I completed my 2 year course of Foreto beginning of May ’19, and had a DXA done in Oct ’19 which showed a disimprovement in scores. Rheumy now wants me to have an Aclasta infusion (Zoledronic Acid) to “keep gains”. I understand that Forteo is an anabolic - affecting osteoclasts and osteoblasts and when we stop taking it we need something to slow down the osteoclasts. My question is around this - how long are the osteoclasts supercharged after stoping Forteo ?

I did Forteo also, it did not work for me. Before that , I was on differents treatments for almost 15 years. Right now, after three years without any medication except Calcium, Vit D, K, etc., I do not know how I am doing. After Forteo, my scores went from bad to worse. Dr. recomend Prolia, I should have started it 2 years ago. Still havent done that. So many bad side effects, it is scary the .fractures to the femur bc of the shot, your teeth come loose, among other things. Also, you can not stop the treatment. By the way, I am 66 years old, in very good health, go to the gym almost every day, do at least 12 thousand steps a day.

Hi SunflowerGal, sorry it took me to long to answer, sometimes its scares me when I read how bad my situation is. Well, Forteo didn't do anything for me, my osteoporosis went from bad to worse, after like 8 months, I swicht from my stomack to my leg bc the needle was hurting me, as almost all medicines, Forteo has a low risk of develop cancer, I did the two years anyway, did not have any side effects. Have not seen o heard about good result from other people. The best luck for you. By the way, I am very afraid of the infusions, either Reclast, Prolia or any other

I have no idea which is better yet. Last Nov 10, 2021, I had the bone destiny showed -4.4 on left hip and back too. Not need to take pic of right hip. Because already knew. Worse than two years ago, last bone destiny. Dr told me very serious and wanted me to take FORTEO injection every day for two years. I didn't get RECLAST IV yet because I still have dental issues first. So Forteo injection for 2 years and I hate needles. Freak me out. I am still very upset. no medicine for me. I will try to get Vit D which I supposed to. The problem is depends on ingredients that i allergic too, or not good ingredients that I require to avoid because i have other health issues like many injuries, Fibromyalgia,
Hashimoto's and many much more But some of you comment that FORTEO didn't help you or build the bone yet....how come??

Hello-TatianaGallegos - Did you take FORTEO injection every day for two years and not improve your bone destiny result? Injection on stomach or ..? Any side effect? Last year I saw another dr who recommend me for RECLAST IV on arm for like two hours ... but I have dental issues first for crown, broken teeth, crowns, deep cleaning gums, then hopefully orth. I have TMJ. I have a metal post in my tooth with large filling then crown. NOW, worse, and wanted me to take FORETO.
What did you think about FORETO? How did you feel about not help to build the bone? Look at that ingredients. any side effect? I am concerning to take it because I always have reaction, nausea, dizzy, vomit, etc. that's why no medicines for long time until I have GI reflux gut. Didn't it really help build the bone? Perhaps contact that company FORETO about the result that not helping build the bone? Because other people say the same thing that not working??

Are you better of medication, have you had any fractures since being off medication. Last week My GP diagnosed me with Osteoporosis my T score was 2.9 not sure how bad this is. I have other chronic conditions that I am on medication for and am concerned what all of this will mean for me. I have chronic pancreatitis, solitary ulcer rectal syndrome an under active thyroid which I am also on medication for. I am gluten intolerant and dairy intolerant and even though I am a marathon runner eat clean healthy organic food free from gluten and dairy, take vital greens, which has calcium magnesium and Vitamin D in it, I also have half a cup of apple cider vinegar , slippery elm, a gluten dairy free digestive protein powder all in my daily smoothie, I eat lots of almonds as I love them. I also walk everyday along with my running, I run in the morning and walk in the afternoon and some how at 50years of age eating healthy and exercising have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. I did have a hysterectomy and my ovaries removed at 30 years of age. Currently I have pelvic fractures in my pelvis, which happened from just stretching my groin. In November last year I fell while running and broke my humorous bone in my shoulder in two places which took a very longtime to heal enough to go back to work and run again, however I have pain in that area everyday. With gut issues I am so concerned about what osteoporosis medication to go on as they all seem to have gut side effects such as constipation or Diarrhoea
I need to take an osteoporosis medication that has no gut side effects or one with the least amount. Can anyone suggest which medication may suit me and if so why.
I feel extremely overwhelmed about my osteoporosis diagnosis and am concerned about experiencing more fractures.
