I was on Antonel 20 years ago for 3 or 4 years. There really wasn't any improvement, doctor said it is keeping you from getting worse. I was fortunate that it didn't usually bother me.

I have been on Actonel (Risedronate) for the past two and a half years and have achieved outstanding results particularly in my spine. I take it once a week on a Sunday but have found if I bend over too much on that day I can get quite bad stomach pains and feel ill (only happened a couple of times). Usually it’s a day I take a bit easier and usually have no problems at all. I have no side effects and would recommend it totally. I like the fact that it has been around for so many years so that long term side effects are known, unlike Prolia and Evenity which are relatively new. Also I am heading back towards the normal range so can discontinue for a while once there…maybe years…until needed again. You cannot do this on Prolia, if you go off it and don’t go onto something else your numbers will revert back to what they originally were or worse…particularly in the spine which is where my problem is. Actonel however has a lasting effect. So far extremely happy with my choice. Don’t be scared, people can have bad reactions to anything and, unless you try for yourself, you will never know. I am a great positive advertisement for Actonel.

I’ve never taken Actonal. I’ve had two infusions of Reclast/ Zolendronic acid. Tablets give me stomach ulcers.
