How Safe And Effective Is Fosomax/Alendrondate?

How Safe And Effective Is Fosomax/Alendrondate?

I have read the extensive side effects in the materials provided with the drug I was prescribed. This morning I read several posts with disturbing information about how bones actually become more brittle and prone to fracture after using this drug. Now, I think I shouldn't take it!

Barn Hi, All this depends on how long was she on Fosmax, if taken over 5 yrs,you can have side affects, also if not taken correctly it will not work and it sounds like it wasn't working for your friend ....Also I must say this, what works for me may not work for you we all have different DNA therefore our bodies are all different,if your Doctor want to put you on a Bisphosphonate ask for another kind its evident you need to take something or perhaps you could ask for an alternate, whatever you do I wish you the best of luck

I also take Alondronate and was very nervous at first about the side effects, but a friend of mine took it for 5 years and it actually put her back into osteopenia without exercising and no adverse side effects. I have been doing yoga and strength training exercises along with the medication and I actually feel less sore. I've been taking it just since October 2019. Good luck!

Sierrasue,All medications have side effects doesn't mean that you'll get them Doctor told me if I take the medication Precisely
as prescribe I would not get side effects and I didn't, I was scared too at first but the Doctor convinced me she repeatedly explain how badly one of my hips were extremely high risk for being fractured ,read the instructions follow and keep a positive mind
you'll be fine, feel free to reach out to me whenever, God bless

Cathy Loper,Its evident your mom in law wasn't taking it correctly that's when you get the side effect taken on empty stomach keeping it separate from any other medication not eating until half in hour or more after, can not lay down until after you eat,I made a mistake of not following the proper instructions and I had heartburn and stomach aching so badly I never made that mistake again.

Also, stomach ulcers with Fosamax. I refused to take it and my doctor was really mad. But, my mother in law had 9 ulcers at one time from it.
