What does osteoporosis do to the body besides weak bones. What are other effects of osteoporosis. Does osteo cause pain ie: Lowe back, neck pain etc?
Bonefittness seems to have given great answers. Is there something that you still need clarification on? I have Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis as well as Osteoporosis. I can recognise arthritic pain and fracture pain. The general consensus is that Osteoporosis is not painful. I disagree as I suffer acute muscle pain with extreme fatigue. For me exercise is the only thing to push through the pain. My bone pain is reducing slowly as I’m on yearly infusions of Aclasta. Terri I can feel your frustration and fear. Please ask more if I haven’t been helpful. This is a busy and sometimes a bit confusing, but we all do our best to help each other. X

I’m trying to stay mobile as I have always been very active. Great uphill walk this morning, as we love hiking. Taking calcium/D3/magnesium supplements, drinking water and likely but unfortunately will be on meds soon. I need to rebuild bone so my endocrinologist and I will have lots to talk about. Fortunately he is a relative so fit me into his schedule quickly. Ribs, both front and back is where most of my discomfort is. Will know soon what’s happening in there. Happy New Years!
I’ve just been told that my bone loss is very severe. Hard to hear. I’m meeting with my doc on Thursday as he wants me on meds and wants to run further tests to determine if the pain is from another source. Does not think it’s from the osteo. Of course I’m a bit scared but trying to stay as positive as possible and not allow what I don’t know to pull me down. Praying a lot and trusting God with it all. 🌹
Hello Rodi and welcome.
Have you been diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia or osteoarthritis?
Osteoporosis by itself is pain free. But some osteo meds can have a side effect of pain. Having a fracture due to osteo, can give you pain as well.
Osteopenia is not painful.
Osteoarthritis on the other hand can be very painful in the joints or areas like your neck or lower back vertebrae where there is movement as well.
Hope you are feeling ok
