Members shared varied experiences with calcium supplementation for osteoporosis, with the overwhelming consensus being that individualized medical guidance is essential since calcium needs, absorption, and risks differ greatly from person to person. Several members described personal strategies for reaching the recommended 1200 mg daily goal, including calcium-fortified orange juice and almond milk, while others emphasized the critical role of vitamin D and magnesium in absorption, and some shared cautionary stories of kidney stones or gallstones linked to supplementation. A recurring theme was that getting calcium through food is generally preferable to pills, but blood work and medical history should always guide decisions about how much to take and in what form.

I was pulled off my calcium because I had enough in my diet. Your doctor can direct you on what is right for you.

I was told that you cannot absorb more than 500 mg. Of calcium at one time.

Agree with all of the above posts. This is a question for your doctor to answer after doing blood work. I think that keeping our "levels" level is an important part of managing our osteoporosis. Time for a phone call Sassygal.
