Are Pilates And Weight Exercise The Best?
A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

After I went from osteopenia to osteoporosis, I started weight exercise and also reformer pilates, once a week.
Just had a bone density scan and my bone density increased by over 2 %.
I'm now back to osteopenia.

Is this combination of exercise the best,
what is your recommendation?

My doctor put me on med to slow down or halt my ostensibly from getting worse but told me meds would not improve my numbers. Due to side effects I stopped meds after few months. Calcium an D plus exercise and numbers improved. I also stopped my daily can of Sprite.
Am careful and try not to fall. Do balancing and stretching. Just my story but hope it helps others

I do not take meds. I had a scan 2 years ago and my numbers were high, .-3.7.
The last 2 years I have improved what I eat, taken calcium and Vit D and exercised. Had another scan this year and my numbers are better, still not great but moving in the right direction without meds. I am 70 and Thankful.

Thanks for the inspiration. My spine is -2.6, so I’m looking forward to building bone and reversing my condition. I’m taking calcium, magnesium, vitamins d and K2. I’m also exercising and walking. Because I also have cranky joints (osteoarthritis) I decided to go to physical therapy to learn how to safely and productively exercise. Just started, but so far so good!

My scan was done at a bone clinic, who specializes on osteoporosis, and I was told, that, according to the printout, I'm back into osteopenia...???

So, as I am understanding this, it is possible that you can go from osteoporosis back to osteopenia, correct? I have been told by 3 doctors that once you have osteoporosis, you can't move your numbers back to osteopenia due to bones mineralizing. On these posts, I am reading differently. I have also researched that with meds, you can grow bone, but not necessarily fill in gaps where it is needed the most, which is concerning - almost giving a false impression - yes, you are growing bone, but no, not where it is always needed. I would love to hear from folks on this. Also, has anyone experienced positive results from using a vibrating plate. Thanks to all who can respond.
