My Dr Wants Me To Start On Reclast And I'm Pretty Scared To Try It. I'm Not Sure What To Do. Is It Worth It?

I have osteoporosis. I've had rib fractures and I'm on prednisone. I've read about the side effects of Reclast and honestly it scares me. If the positives don't way out the negatives I'm incline to try something else.

I Have been on Reclast for 2 years. There was a change after I had a bone density test done. My docter was so happy it was working for me, I have gone from a -3.8 to a -2.7. A girlfriend of mine steered me to it, she had said her docter told her her bones were improving. I still have the normal aches and pains with my arthritis, I take Meloxicam also every day.

I have been on both Prolia (three years) and Reclast (one year). Prolia increase my bone density in spine, per DEXA, 13% and in hips .05%. However, when I went on Reclast, five months after discontinuing Prolia, I lost those gains. Doctor does not know why but is monitoring my bone markers to figure it out. I still have osteopenia and while off meds I will do femoral hip exercises and pelvic strengthening exercise and try to maintain good diet. However, I did not have bad side effects on Reclast one year. If a person hydrates, 64oz water day before infusion and 32oz water day of infusion and drink water during infusion, you will only experience very mild flu symptoms or none. I did have problems on Prolia. I caught every virus and cold imaginable so figure it negatively affected my immune system. Each person must make their own choice, as Sungirl51 says. Blessings to all of us while we journey down the path of stronger bones, more healthy lives:)

I recently had a Dexa. My numbers are pretty bad and my Dr wants me to get Prolia. After researching and seeing all of the side effects while on the shots and after, I have decided to not take any meds. It just doesn't make any sense to me to take something that can cause fractures and bone pain when I feel fine. I am researching diet improvements and supplements. Also, getting more regular exercise and improving balance. My sister has made the same choice for her osteoporosis. I realize not everyone will agree with my choice but it's what feels right for me.

I can't be on any of these medication, because there is a high probability that they would reactivate my cancer cells. So I can only take alendranate and Caltrate with Vit D. At least my Calcium level is now just inside the normal range. Yippee.

I'm not convinced reclast is a good idea. I think I'll try something else this year. I've got to look into a few things. Once I make up my mind I'll let you all know.
