What Do You Think About Prolia?
A MyOsteoTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am 67 and just diagnosed with osteoporosis of an 80/90 year old. Have two compression fracture with bone fracture of the endplated. Seeing a rheumatologist at the end of May. What do you all have to say about Prolia vs a natural avenue of treatment. I already purchased a Garden of Health Bone Health algae cal with Strontium. Taking it but so very constipating and now another problem.

I myself had to "bite the bullet"' so to speak, to take my third Prolia injection. My first injection didn't bother me one bit, but 24 hrs after the second one I was down with flulike symptoms for 3-4 days. I was worried about the third injection and told the PA about the symptoms. She helped my confidence by explaining to me that people often get those symptoms with the first couple of injections, but seem to do better by the third one. That is exactly what happened in my case. I was tired, but with my tension and fear before the injection, I can't really say the injection caused the fatigue.

I’m on prolix 6 monthly. I have a few rough days following my injection but can cope. It seems to be working for me. Following a bad fall in January which hospitalised me for 5 weeks but no fractures.

I saw my rheumatologist and I mentioned my concerns with Prolia. She said no calcium supplements because of my reflux and calcium is very constipating and also causes digestive issues. She strongly suggested Forteo, the once a day injection.. this med also has many side effects. I have two minor compression fractures but need surgery for a herniated disc that is impinging a nerve causing problems with my leg.My instincts tell me they are saying no Forteo = no surgery for relief and full use of my leg. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I wouldn’t touch it, I have a major problem with side effects with most drugs. I believe with Prolia it is 50/50, you can either take it and it works well or you can get severe effects that last a long time. I’m don’t want to roll the dice.
