Members shared practical advice for managing TMJ and jaw arthritis pain following a dental flare, with the most commonly recommended solutions being custom appliances from dentists or prosthodontists to wear at night, alternating heat and ice, and topical relief with arnica or homemade rosemary cream. Several members described their own experiences with TMJ, including one who recently had surgery for osteoarthritis and another whose pain improved with cream and jaw exercises, while one noted that Fosamax may affect dental and jaw bones despite helping with osteoporosis. A recurring theme was the importance of seeking specialized care from prosthodontists or even chiropractors, as there is no dedicated TMJ specialist, and giving the jaw rest through small bites and mindful movement.

Ask your dentist to make an appliance for you to wear until it subsides.

I’ve suffered most my life with TMJ. Had surgery to correct bite which helped a little. My best advice is to find a really good Prosthodontist. That was the best move I ever made. I wear an appliance every night to rest my jaw. There is no specialist in TMJ. Wishing you the best of luck.

Fosamax May be causing the TMJ, my dentist said that although Fosamax is good for Osteoporosis bones, Fosamax is not good for the dental bones, maybe TMJ bones
