Does Any Medication Actually Repair Our Bones?

Does Fosomax actgually work? Does Prolia actually work? Bad side effects for everything. Sometimes I think I want to just do nothing. Because I still work, (have to) still paying for my kids college and 10 more yrs of house payments, etc. My doctor even comments that "sometimes there is breaks in the femur" or other bones" while using this mediciation. Isn't it supposed to make them strong instead of weaker? I think Medicine sometimes causes other problems. I wouldn't have this if Iโ€ฆ read more

I have been on prolia for 7 years and my decsa scan says I am now osteopenia. A huge improvement.
The prolia stops the bone breaking down and builds bone. Not all osteoproatic medication does both.
Any side affects I put up with.
I have had 2 spinal fractures and broken ribs. No breaks since I have been on prolia. And I fall over quite a bit due to walking in places I probably shouldn't. I am 68 and my first break was at 60.
I do exercises at the gym to strengthen my back muscles and swim andc walk my 5 dogs everyday and garden and recently painted the inside of my house.
Also have osteo arthritis everywhere.
Keep moving and pushing yourself. One can always take a rest.
Stop moving and you will end up to stiff to move.
I am now deciding whether to stop the prolia injections.
My endocrinologist said too my GP said not too.

I donโ€™t want to take drugs as even if you are okay on them they mess with the cells in your body. I also donโ€™t think that diet and exercise will reverse osteoporosis but it may halt it and with strength comes positivity, good muscles that support your bone structure giving you the best chance of living a pretty good life. I have fear, sleepless nights and everything but my mother lived to 90 with it and only in the last 18 months did she deteriorate helped by loneliness and the continued feeling of loss after my Dad died years before. What we must remember is people live with even worse things and no amount of diet and exercise will halt their disease. We can do as much as possible to keep things at bay.

Ginger1, I don't have a clue what to suggest as far as meds go, after much research and asking lots of questions I concluded I was too afraid of the side effects of the big pharma drugs and am a supplement gal. Experiences like yours just reinforce my decision. I am truly sorry you're suffering so.

You asked for thoughts, for what it's worth, here's mine. In your shoes, I believe I would give my body a rest from the big pharma drugs and use supplements, exercise, and diet to treat my osteoporosis. It's true that you could get a spinal fracture if you go off the big pharma drugs - you could also get a spinal fracture while on them. If you do decide to take another of the big pharma drugs, I suggest you choose one with a daily or weekly dosage. That way if you do have another adverse reaction you can stop taking it and not have to wait in misery 6 months for it to be out of your system.

Have you had at least two DEXA scans to see if the Fosamax and Prolia stabilized or increased your bone density? What are your T scores?

I know all of this has to be overwhelming and extremely stressful. I pray that you can find meds that help your condition without causing other problems. Take good care of you. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’š

It increases bones on the average of 4-6 per cent which I don't think is that much.
