Members shared their decisions about whether to take bisphosphonates for osteoporosis, with many choosing to stop or avoid them entirely due to concerns about side effects like digestive issues, dental problems, and the medication's impact on bone remodeling. Several members described turning to alternative approaches instead, including AlgaeCal supplements, vitamin D and calcium, weight-bearing exercise like walking and Pilates, and alkaline diets to support bone health naturally. A recurring theme was the tension between medical recommendations and personal autonomy, with members expressing both the fear of progression without medication and the determination to find gentler, holistic solutions that feel right for their individual bodies.

Biphosphonates I’ve refused to take due to what they do with bones they destroy the osteoblasts which meas the osteoclasts that make new cartilage can’t stick to anything therefore in my opinion it’s pointless taking them, I have an ongoing fight with my doc About this and the fact that they cause dental problems tooth loosening and in very rare cases necrotised jaw bone that’s never going to build back despite being a rare side effect I’m still not taking chances, please make your own minds up about taking them or not don’t let my choices influence you as a nurse I check everything the doc gives me for side effects I’m looking at holistic ways to help weight bearing excercise and supplements but I’ve not finished my research on that yet. It’s horrible when the side effects of something to help your condition can cause more damage than you want I’m sure that you can stop things progressing or deteriorating it’s never too late to take up swimming etc big hugs let me know how you get on xxx

Kate Austin, Denise Ellis, I start Algaecal few weeks ago. Please google it. Look like it may work. Also, alkaline diet to improve the ph in your body. Feeling really good, a lot of energy. Good luck to all of us!

Thanks Tatiana, I'm going to give Algaecal a try. I've been on an alkaline diet for 2 years since my cancer dx; also no estrogenic foods, no soy, peas, corn, etc. Best wishes to all.

Hi Denise, I was diagnosed a few months ago and am taking alendronate once a week. Not sure how long I will continue because of the side effects but my daughter is a pharmacist and encourages me to take it for now.
I read your story and would like to know the name of the DVD you mentioned.
