I have a small stress fracture in the left femur. I’ve been off my feet using crutches for almost 3 months waiting to see if it would heal on its own. Other option presented to me is a titanium rod installed in the leg to prevent a complete fracture. Surgeon was on the fence about the necessity for doing this...consequently so am I. I’ve gotten strong arms out of all this crutch use, so it’s not entirely grim. Has anyone else had to make this decision?
Have you looked into Stim treatments? Electromagnetic frequency pulsing? It's done for spines and it must be done for other parts of the body. When fractures/bones don't heal well it is usually recommended. I just had spine surgery in May. My spine surgeon wanted it me on it because of the osteoporosis. I didn't do it immediately and my spine is healing well without so I won't be using it. It's pretty mainstream now because most insurance companies will cover at least part of the treatments.
Hello Im sorry to hear about your fractures. were you both on biphosphonates long term?
Well my femur fracture was not small but had an option to repair or replace so i replaced. Which I believe was a good decision.
Yes SallyMcIlroy I was using Prolia, and proviously.Fosamax for probably more years than currently recommended
Thanks Linesh...I will ask about that. Is it part of your PT or do you own your own device?
